Artist Statement
Art is an endless journey, an unfolding experience that reveals something new every time you truly engage with it. Just as artists choose their art, art also chooses us—it calls to us like a song resonating at just the right frequency. Some pieces instantly connect with us, while others remain distant. It’s a mysterious language, one that I’ve learned to listen to more intently.
A friend once told me that artists are slaves of love—we create because we must, because it is how we express our deepest emotions. That thought has stayed with me and transformed how I approach my work. I no longer see art as something to be perfected but as something to be felt. Every piece I create is a fragment of my soul, an offering to those willing to pause and see. To me, art is authenticity, about honoring the raw, unfiltered emotions that shape us. I am grateful that art chose me, and I continue to be mesmerized by its magic every single day.
About the artist
I am Vishakha Gautam, a 29-year-old left-hander with an overactive imagination and an insatiable love for creation. Art has been my lifelong companion, calling me back time and again. While my professional path led me to a BTech from NSIT, an MBA from XLRI, and a role as a product manager, my soul has always belonged to art. I have explored various mediums—pencil sketches, acrylics, watercolors, graphic design, digital art, and mural art—each allowing me to express different facets of my inner world.
Lately, the pull toward art has intensified, a deep knowing that this is my purpose. I feel an urgency to create, to share my work with the world, and to fully immerse myself in learning, exploring, and evolving as an artist. Art has never been just a hobby; it’s an extension of my being, a dialogue between my emotions and the canvas.
My creative process is deeply intuitive. It begins with absorbing—reading, meditating, connecting with nature, and letting emotions take shape within me. When inspiration strikes, I surrender to it. My recent works have become increasingly abstract and spiritual, mirroring my thoughts, lessons, and personal evolution.
I create in a state of flow, allowing colors to guide me rather than controlling them. With soothing music in the background, I let my emotions unfold onto the canvas, free from the constraints of overthinking or expectation. The final piece often surprises me—it is as much a revelation to me as it is to the viewer. Once complete, I like to sit with my work, decoding its message. As it is abstract, I love engaging friends in a game of interpretation—what they see, what they feel. This interplay between artist and audience is what makes my art come alive.
My work evokes emotion, invites reflection, and creates a meditative experience for the viewer. It mirrors my spiritual nature and my love for fluidity, much like water—ever-flowing, ever-adapting, yet deeply powerful. Through my art, I hope to inspire others to embrace stillness, explore emotions, and find beauty in the unseen.
