A magnificent signed oil on canvas by Carmelo Castellano who was born in Spain but worked in France. He was a prominent member of the "Groupo Z" who were avant garde spanish painters from Valencia that formed in the 1940's. He exhibited all over Europe and notably at the major Paris galleries as well as shows at the Grand Palais and elsewhere - extensively across Europe.

Carmelo Castellano was born in Valencia in 1925 into a family of painters. From a young age he worked in drawing and painting and was then admitted to the Ecole Des Beaux Arts in Valencia in 1944. In 1949 he won the grand prize at the Ecole Des Beaux Arts for his work.

He participated in all the major artists movements in Valencia in the 1940's and became one of the main avant-garde painters of the time and became involved in the "Groupe Z" in 1947.

In 1952 he moved to Paris and set up his studios in the city. From around 1960 he became obsessed with meta physcis and abstraction and began painting objects in motion, as presented in this acquired piece.
